It is the national body for coordinating, promoting, and facilitating quality activities in India. The QCI is responsible for setting standards, conducting assessments, and issuing certifications.

The QCI has recently issued a recruitment notification for the post of Examiner of Patents & Designs. The vacancies are available in various locations across India.

The Examiner of Patents & Designs is responsible for examining patent and design applications to determine whether they meet the requirements of the Indian Patents Act, 1970 and the Designs Act, 2000.   • Age Limit: 21 to 35 years (as on the last date of online application)
  • Age Relaxation: a. Government servants: Up to 5 years (maximum age limit of 40 years)
  • b. Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe: Up to 5 years
  • c. Other Backward Classes (eligible for reservation): Up to 3 years
  • d. Defence Services personnel disabled in operations: Up to 3 years
  • e. Ex-servicemen: Up to 5 years (based on service duration)
  • f. ECOs/SSCOs: Up to 5 years (with extended assignment)
  • g. Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD): Up to 10 years

    a. Preliminary Exam: Screening
    b. Mains Exam: Shortlisting for Interview

  • Phases Details: a. Preliminary Exam:
    • Screening test, marks not considered for final list.
    • Online mode.
    • 1 paper with objective type multiple choice questions.
    • Total marks: 150.
    • Duration: 2 hours.
    • 150 questions on various subjects.
    • Subjects: General English (15 marks), Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning (30 marks), Quantitative Aptitude (30 marks), General Knowledge and Current Affairs (30 marks), General Science (30 marks), IP legislation in India, WIPO and related treaties (15 marks).
    • Qualifying marks: UR: 30%, OBC/EWS: 25%, Others: 20%.
    • Approximately 20 times the total vacancies to be admitted to mains exam based on preliminary exam result.
    • Minimum qualifying marks and cutoff will be determined based on vacancies and number of qualified candidates.
    • Subject to modification by competent authority.
  •  Mains Examination:
  • a. Offline mode.
  • b. Paper-I: OMR Based, 100 marks (2 hours)
  • General Knowledge and Current Affairs (20 marks)
  • General Aptitude (20 marks)

  • Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) Knowledge (20 marks)
  • c. Paper-II: Descriptive, 300 marks (3 hours)
  • Technical/Scientific Discipline

  • d. Cumulative marks of Paper-I and Paper-II: 80% weightage in final list
  • e. Own handwriting rule, except for persons with disabilities eligible for a scribe (based on rules/guidelines)
  • f. Illegible handwriting will be considered incorrect.
  • g. Eligibility for interview: Approx. five times the total vacancies
